According to the 2006 Car Theft Index from the Home Office, the top cars most likely to get stolen are as follows:

Other highlights

Other interesting highlights of the report include:

  • Older cars are at the highest risk of being stolen
  • Cars more than nine years old account for nearly two-thirds of all cars stolen
  • New cars are at least risk of being stolen – those aged 0–3 years old account for less than 11 per cent of stolen cars.
  • BCS (British Crime Survey)results also show that cars are far less likely to be stolen if they have a car alarm or some kind of immobiliser
  • A consistent finding of the BCS is that around 68 per cent of vehicle crimes occur near the home
  • The street outside the home is where the highest volume of incidents occurs – 43 per cent in the 2005/06 BCS
